The Canal and River Trust is keen to encourage anglers onto the Grand Union Canal and the water supply reservoirs which line it. Before you fish, check with the Canal and RIver Trust for information on access and availability. Rod licences are obligatory, and can be obtained from your local post office or local tackle shops. Most local angling clubs also sell day permits. Fish to be caught are the roach, perch and bream, chub, pike and carp.
Fishing around Batchworth Lock Area
The area downstream of the saw tooth weir on the River Chess, fish just outside the white water for Roach, Bream, occasional Gudgeon, using Avon float trotting downstream, with maggot or bread as bait.
In the pound between the Road Bridge and the Lock, carp can be seen cruising about, when the area is still and no flow from the leaking lock gates. Surface baits can work.
Under the black and white lattice footpath bridge Perch can be seen, fish using float or by drop shotting. Small Roach and Dace can also be found in the area.
