Why get involved?

RWT is a well established and growing Heritage Learning Charity. As the winners of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (2017) we have been recognised as doing excellent work within the local community and we already benefit a large number of people, young and old.

The Trust is a voluntary organisation with our General Manager and Education Programme Manager being the only paid members of staff.

Everyone else donates their time and our volunteers take part in a wide range of activities.

How to get involved

Whatever your interest, there’s something at Batchworth for you to do, and enjoy doing, for the benefit of all the residents of the area. We have a range of volunteering of roles and all are flexible so that you can take part when you can.

Our volunteering opportunities include:

  • Helping to run our award winning education programme ‘Learning at the Lock’ aimed at primary school children.
  • Helping to run our shop and information centre at Batchworth open throughout the year.
  • Training and voluntering as boat crews and skippers in helming our “community boats”.
  • Helping look after the area between Batchworth and Stockers Lock under an adoption agreement with the Canal and River Trust.
  • Helping conserve and maintain our historic narrowboat ‘Roger’ built in 1936.
  • Volunteer at the award winning Rickmansworth Festival during the 3rd weekend of May each year.

Our work gives real opportunities to gain experience of a wide range of skills and suit people with a range of interests and capabilities.
